WILL THOSE WHO DIE IN INFANCY GO TO HEAVEN?

Perhaps half of those born on earth died in childhood. What happens to them? Didn’t John report that Jesus said unless a man is born of water (baptism) he cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven? Don’t Catholics believe unbaptized children who die go to Limbo, and not heaven?

This long-taught belief about Limbo was never official Catholic doctrine. It sprang from uncertainty about their fate.

Christ said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14). Elsewhere Christ said, “Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).

The scriptures clearly teach that little children are innocent. We can take great comfort that those who die in childhood are not lost, but all are saved in the kingdom of heaven. God is always loving and just.
